As the boys went to retrieve Harry and Felicia, I stood at a railing
nearby, decked in beautiful twinkle lights, people walking below me in a bright
pit that one could enter by a row of iron steps, enjoying the street activities
that peaceful little corner had to offer. I watched the glistening fountains,
lost in my own thoughts under the pleasant night time sky. The world quakes
were no more due to our success, and the city was permitted to rest as all was
made right again. I was surrounded by exhilarating city buildings plastered with
lights and digital billboards.
It was here that I pondered on which decision to make regarding this story..
Yes, it's true..writing it might very well be helping the..Cataclysm..but at the same time..I didn't really care. I don't care. Everyone is reading this story, anyway..anyone can draw what they want from it, for or against me. It doesn't matter. I can take it. Besides..whoever the mysterious author is, they leave bread crumbs, too. Leaving their 'question marks' on the blog and adding bits to my own entries. It's almost as if I'm being rewarded for my postings.
I only had one decision to make..I was to continue writing.
Continue to post. I have so many adventures ahead. You, dears, need to hear them.
And I intend on making that happen. No matter the outcome.
We're with this together until the end.
Distracting me from my thoughts..I caught sudden sight of someone..and my eyes snapped in their direction. I then locked eyes on who it was. A dark haired figure with gorgeous emerald green eyes, a hood hugging around their head, who stood across from me leaning against the railing opposite from me, twinkle lights glowing against him. The water fountains close to him made him look truly, darkly majestic, as he stood with his hands in his pockets, smirking at me.
He then turned and started to walk off.
I grabbed the railing and intended to run around it after him, when a voice stopped me.
"Sarah"
My eyes snapped to the left and I saw the boys approaching me.
I quickly looked back at Mystery Boy...but alas..I was too late. He was gone.
I swallowed and deflated with a disappointed sigh as my eyes fell to the ground.
"Miss Demens, what's wrong?" Bane questioned, bringing me back to reality.
I shook my head, "Nothing.."
Body of lies.
"How's Harry?" "Safe and sound inside his tower." Master answered, boredly.
I looked to them, "No sign of Loki?"
"Nope. He seems to have really bailed." "In fact, the T.A.R.D.I.S. seems to be unsettled. Like it's ready to take off now. Think that's a sign to hop to the next world..onward we go, Demens."
He and the others then turned and they began to walk away. I was getting tired of the men in my life turning and leaving so suddenly. I shot a step forward. "Boys, wait."
They skid to a stop and turned their bodies halfway.
I turned my head slightly, clearing my throat as I held myself up with one hand against the railing beside me. "Look..I just...I just wanna say..I'm sorry."
They jerked their heads back at this.
"What I said was wrong..no matter what you've done or said, there's no cause for me to lash out and treat you that way..I know I'm..annoying..obnoxious..weird..pushy..demanding..but it's just..the truth is..I used to be so hateful..now..I'm learning. I'm trying to forgive..what I said back in Mirkwood, about villains not being able to be saved..I was wrong. Everyone has a chance. Including you..and well..despite how you might feel about me..I just want you to know..I do care about you..and I don't want you to get hurt..we've been through a lot together..and I honestly consider you to be my brothers.."
At this, they tried to hide it as best as possible..but they perked. They actually perked.
What I said got to them...this made me smile, rather uncertainly..I didn't really know what to say, and neither did they. They opened their mouths to speak, but nothing came out.
They just drifted their eyes away, breathing sharply, attempting to hide the happy expressions swelling up in their faces. This became a rather awkward silence, and I hate anything awkward, so I decided to break it and laugh it off, charging forward. "Let's go, boys."
They all turned and we five walked side by side, me in the middle, and I looked up at each of them, seeing now that there was so much more to them than what others saw..
And this filled me with hope. I smiled warmly, and hooked Master and Jim by the necks, placing my arms around them, holding their heads affectionately against my shoulders. And I put my own head against Jim's. We all strolled down the streets, closer than we've ever been..
~
The next morning, I returned to the Oscorp Tower on my own, the Tower itself back to normal, where I intended on saying goodbye. Things were set right with Loki and Livewire gone, but the whereabouts of Spider-Man was still a complete mystery. No indications were given as to where he went..therefore it's only the logical assumption to assume that Cataclysm has him wherever they are... and I need to find him.
I hurried along to the floor, smiling Felicia's way, where Harry's office was and I knocked on his door. Once stepping inside, I smiled at the young CEO, both of us nodding at one another.
He got up from his chair, "Sarah!"
"Hello, Harold." I strolled upto his desk. "I see things are back to the way they should be."
He chuckled, "Not just that..Menken and his men were arrested. I'm gonna make sure they get a really comfy new home in prison for what they've done.."
"Lovely. They need a lesson.." I stepped forward, licking my lips.
"Listen..I know it's pretty sudden, considering we just met and all..but I'm about to take off."
Harry jerked his head back. "Take off? But you just got here!"
"I know..I'm sorry..hate to save and run, but that's just the way I gotta go about things. Don't have a lot of time to rest." Harry nodded, tightening his jaw. "I get it...you got places to look after..lots of other worlds those creeps are messing up, right?"
I flexed my brows. He looked down. "..Just be sure to come back some time, alright? And have fun..you and your weird ship." He grinned at this, laughing, and I grinned back.
"Pretty neat machinery, eh?" "Let's just say, me and Felicia freaked out for awhile last night.."
I sniffed another laugh. "Yeahhh......but yeah..of course....I've got a Spider-Man to return."
"Ohh, Spider-Man.." He chuckled, mockingly. I just smiled, trying to get off the subject.
"..Listen..that disease you have.."
His eyes lifted to me. I reached into my pockets, curling my lips back.
"Since it's a little unnecessary to go to that place now..I brought you something for that."
I took out a small vile and placed it upon the desk, nodding to it. "..That."
He glanced at it, then me. "What is it?"
"..Let's just say, it's medicine. It'll cure you, I promise."
He laughed at this, shifting doubtfully. "C'mon.." "Harry, just trust me. Just drink it and it'll do the job. I want you better." He stared at me for a minute, reluctant and doubtful, but I shrugged.
"Whatta ya got to lose?"
With this, he agreed...he didn't have much to lose.
I glanced behind my shoulder, then leaned in close.
"Felicia would want you to try it.." He flashed his eyes at me, "Wait what?"
"Boy, c'mon..you got a beautiful assistant who obviously cares about you. You're both single and a freaking adorable match..you got a long rich life to live that now no one is able to take from you. Don't make the same mistakes your dad did, Harry..don't push people away cuz he was a crappy example of what love should be..you both deserve to be happy, bro. Seize your moment. Ask her out. Drink the medicine. Go live your life. Be a hero."
Harry swallowed, uncertainly. "I'm no hero..I'm not meant to be a hero.."
I nodded as I stepped back, looking away. "..That's only upto you."
At that, I gave him one last smile.
"..Goodbye, Harry. I'll see you again."
Goodbye indeed, you attractive man. I hurried back out, along the way bumping into Felicia, who smiled and waved at me. "Bye Sarah..stay safe." I winked and fistbumped her as she passed me to enter Harry's office. "See ya, girl."
She went inside and I quickly backtracked and rushed against the door to listen.
"Mr. Osborn, I have the files on the investigations, if you want to-"
"Thanks, Felicia, but we'll, uh...get to that later. Thanks.."
There was silence. I peeked and saw him holding the vile, staring at it.
She looked down and nodded, understandably, before turning, "Alright.."
"--Felicia."
She paused, then swung back around. "Yes, Mr. Osborn?"
"......um.......I...was, uh...wondering if....you were...doing anything for lunch.."
He rubbed his temple, nervously.
SQUEA
She tilted her head, "Lunch?"
"Yeah..uh..did you um..wanna do that...with me?"
She was silent a moment. "....Are you asking me out on a..date?"
".......Yes."
SQUEA SQUEA SQUEEAAAAAAAA!!
There was more silence. I bit my lip.
"..You didn't even have to ask. Just tell me to be there and I'll be there."
The smile on that boy, I dieeeeedddddd.
MY SHIP!! MY SHIP HAD SAILED!!
My work was done. I swung around and hurried off, giggling the way a champ should.
GoblinCat was made official.
~ ~ ~
Not long after, I left and joined Jim at the docks, and we seated on a bench, waiting for Gwen to arrive. Jim and I got to talking quite a bit, about this and that, telling jokes, playing a few dumb games, me actually being able to make the bug laugh.
But after awhile of sitting there with him, something occurred to me..
I decided to get down to it, to ask him about it where the others were not present.
"..Jim?" He looked at me. I shifted. "..You don't...actually have feelings for me..do you?"
His boyish smile stuck on his face as if he plastered it on..although his dark brown, almost emotionless eyes said another thing. I bit my lip. "It's all a game..right? You're not serious.."
He breathed and his eyes fluctuated a minute, before staring straight back at me. "..Of course."
I nodded, swallowing, satisfied with the answer as I looked away.
"Great..I'm willing to play along..it's pretty funny, pretending a guy actually likes me. I mean, who would?" He kept on smiling..a dead, haunting smile..as he continued to stare right at me, even though my attention was turned away from him. "Yeah........." His eyes finally turned away and his smile faded a bit. "...who would."
We both shifted, uncomfortably, the air becoming tense and awkward.
why did this keep happening.
The sounds of blow-horns from nearby boats, buoy bells ringing and seagulls calling above us was the only background noise present in the area, so it was relatively easy and rather loud to hear my name being called by Miss Stacey herself. Our eyes lifted to see her running upto us, a purple crochet stocking hat atop her head, dressed in a long blue coat and knee-high brown boots, her bright blonde hair blowing in the wind. We got up and met with her, Gwen smiling brightly.
"You did it!" She said, victoriously. "You saved the city!"
"Yeah, well, had to, of course. In Spidey's stead and all."
She nodded, her eyes briefly falling.
"How's Max?" "He's good. Oscorp took him into medical care, checking him out. He's determined to use his powers for good..credits you as his inspiration. People seem to love him."
"Well, how nice of him.."
Gwen chuckled, smiling even more. "..I'll look after him. I think we can all work together, me, him and Harry. Even after Peter comes back."
I nodded, shrugging my shoulders uneasily.
"..I do promise to find him, Gwen. Trust me, ok? As soon as I do, I'll bring him back."
She smiled, hopefully. "I know you will...thank you, Sarah. For everything."
She then hugged me, tightly.
I sniffed a laugh, "..Take care of yourself, Gwen. Help the others. Stick together. Have faith."
She let go, her smile increasing. "I promise."
With that, I saluted her with two fingers and me and Jim parted ways from her, her waving goodbye. "G'bye, Gwen." "Goodbye, Sarah."
She watched after us, sighing hopefully.
"Come back in one piece."
. . .
I know, I know, I'm getting sappy with all these goodbyes.
But here's where this adventure really ends.
The final chapter of my time in Spidey's world.
That occurred when upon meeting the boys at a random street corner, I was suddenly blindfolded and led to an unknown location.
"Boys, confounded, where are you taking me, we gotta go!"
"Shush, hush! One more stop before we go."
I groaned.
"Oh, stop."
I heard a door open and I assumed we went through it, cuz it got a little quieter from the city noise blaring in my eyes two seconds before. And I heard them giggle..GIGGLE.
"What's that noise you're making, what has happened?!"
"Bane, hurry!" Jim whispered. "BANE, WHAT'S GOING ON?!"
"Shush!" "No shush! I demand answers!"
I was suddenly seated.
"Sit." Joker ordered, grabbing me by the shoulders to say this, where he then let go.
Everyone else seated around me. I couldn't help but notice that it smelled delightful, wherever we were. And I licked my lips hungrily. "There's food here, why are you torturing me, let me feast."
"Hold it hold it!" "Hold WHAT, I am nothing but confused!"
"Wait for it!" "KAHSJKHKKJHSWJHSK"
Annnddddd, someone else seated. I slammed my fists on the hard surface infront of me.
"TARNATION, WHERE AM I"
There was suddenly light.
I was blind. I squinted my eyes, looking all around. Then my jaw dropped.
Infront of me, AND the boys, were cups of icecream.
I blinked, repeatedly, dazed and confused. "Dairy Queen?! Wh--what is this?!"
I looked straight at their beaming, grinning faces. I pointed, accusingly. "What did you do?"
Master smirked and glanced around, "Well..we figured that technically, it's still your birthday..and we decided..that technically makes every day your birthday..so maybe..at the end of every adventure..we can go..sit down..and celebrate our victory..and get ourselves a birthday icecream.." Joker shrugged, "We can call it victory icecream."
My heart..it dropped..my eyes swelled, jaw hanging in shock. And a smile halfway escaped my mouth. "Boys.....I..I don't know what to...you did this for..me??"
They realized where this was going and they tried to hide it by playing it cool.
"Well it's no big deal, really, just icecream..no need to cry."
I actually did smile. Especially when Bane looked straight at me and said quietly, "Happy Birthday, Miss Demens."
Master quickly looked down. "Well yeah, so..enough of that..go ahead, before it melts..and I swear if you pray over it, I'm taking the T.A.R.D.I.S. and abandoning all of you."
The others followed suit, except for Bane, and they delve in, Bane watching tranquilly.
I looked at each of them, feeling emotions and tenderness I never thought I'd feel towards them.
But to spare their dignity, I let my eyes fall to the table and let them have their way, still smiling all the more, and delve into my own treat.
There, the five of us sat. Eating icecream. Celebrating our victory.
It was here that I pondered on which decision to make regarding this story..
