Departing from the group, I wandered into the forest- or more specifically- deeper into it, and let my subconscious lead the way. Yes, this was a perfect way to get lost.
And you have to understand, I wasn't thinking like myself.
I was tired, in pain, lost, relatively hungry - - there's only so much dwarf stew can do for you - - homesick - - yes, homesick - - and overall just really sick to death of everything.
I can go on and on about how unprepared I was for any of this and how much this freaking trip absolutely sucked. But that'll just be a bore to you.
You want adventure. You want excitement.
Me, I just wanted sleep. Actual sleep. Not that sorry excuse I previously went through, that was more than likely giving me psychological problems.
But most of all, I missed the others. Yes, I know, they were all psychos, major creeps and over all just complete jerks. But believe it or not, I enjoyed their company. In some way, in some manner, they made me feel safe. It's so weird and I can't explain it, but there it is.
I even missed Moriarty's flirts. Yeah, I said it.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the dwarves and full well wanted to stick around with them.
But a company's a company and I was separated from mine.
The dwarves were Bilbo's deal, not mine. I'd tag along, but I wasn't the star in that story. He was.
I wasn't even the star in THIS story.
So, really, what good am I? I was intruding on everyone's space and I didn't even mean to.
I really am a bad word.
So yes, trailing along the area, I was hoping I'd bump into those four loons.
So far, I had been doing this for 15 minutes, just walking, hands in my pockets.
Was tempted to put my hood up, but it wouldn't do me any good.
..That's when I heard a creak behind me.
I jolted; then instinctively swung around.
To my surprise..it was only Ori.
My reaction made him jump still and squeak.
I breathed a sigh of semi-relief.
"Bro, c'mon, you can't do that to me."
Ori gave me a nervous grin. "Sorry...."
I raised my eyebrows and made a face at the awkward silence.
". . . . . Something you want?"
He blinked. "...uh...yes...no....I--" He looked away.
It hit me. "Have you been following me?"
He jumped at this, his eyes growing wide. "No! . . . well.....yes." His head sunk.
I dunno why, but that was kind've adorable. I smirked, folding my arms.
"Do the others know?"
He looked guilty and stared at the ground. "No....I followed you when I saw you walk away.."
I chuckled. Silly boy.
He shifted, looking like a very unhappy puppy. "..I was nosy..."
I shook my head. "Totally cool, man. I understand." I started to turn and walk away.
"Uh....miss Sarah?"
I turned. "What?"
He shrugged his shoulders. "...May I hear a story from your world?"
I frowned. "What?"
"A story...but, if you can't...I understand."
"No, I can...I am a writer."
He beamed. "Really?!"
"Yeah."
"Then please tell one!"
I shrugged my shoulders and looked around for some inspiration. "....how about.........Snow White?"
I wasn't really asking him...more like talking to myself.
Then my head started to ache. I winced, holding it.
"...Is it ok if I skim over stuff?"
"....um..I suppose.."
".....actually, do I have to tell it right now? I'm....I'm really tired."
He frowned, sadly.
aw, I felt bad.
"...a summary?"
He half-smiled. "...alright?"
I shut my eyes tight. "There was once a young princess named Snow White who lived in a castle with her wicked stepmother, the Queen, who hated her and was jealous of her beauty. The queen was engaged in magic and owned a mirror that she used to spy on everyone to see who was essentially prettier than she was. She would go up to the mirror and say, 'Mirror Mirror, on the wall. Who is the fairest of them all?' and he would usually respond that she was..but this time, it was different. The answer was Snow White. Enraged, she ordered her Huntsman to take her into the woods and kill her.....but upon getting there, the Huntsman hesitated..he couldn't do it. He warned Snow of the Queen's plans, then yelled at her to go into the forest and get as far away from the castle and the Queen as possible."
wince...wince wince wince. Ugh...this was killing me.
"..She eventually found a little cottage that was unoccupied at the moment, as far as she could tell...or was it? She went inside and realized someone lived there. But the contents of the home suggested that..children lived there.. She looked all around, and no one was home. She assumed they were away. The place was very messy, so she fixed it up. Cleaned it, top to bottom, and when she was done, she collapsed in exhaustion across their small beds upstairs."
I paused to look at little Ori...if he had a seat, he'd be on the edge of it.
"...Then the children came....only...they WEREN'T children...they were men...dwarf men."
Ori raised his eyebrows. I smirked.
"They were astonished that their house had been cleaned...and upon going upstairs, they found Snow White, asleep. When she awoke, they made eachother's acquaintance. She told them her story, hoping something good would come out of it..they agreed she could stay, but on one condition.. she cooked and cleaned and kept the house while she was there. She agreed...she was almost like the maid for awhile...but eventually, they both warmed up to the other and she became even more important to them than they thought she would. They became friends."
A sudden pain. A stinging I couldn't ignore. I shot my hand to my head and gritted my teeth.
".....uh.....can I please...finish the rest later?"
His face dropped. "But..!" "Please, Ori. I really need....some rest.."
He looked heartbroken. "...Alright..in the morning, then."
I thought he would then sulk away, but he didn't. He went to smiling.
"Snow White...she's just like you!"
I blinked. "...come again?"
"Well, a young girl in the forest...meets a company of dwarves...and they all become friends!"
"Whoa now, since when were we friends?"
He looked down. I clenched my body. "I mean, you guys hardly know me.."
"But we like you! Most of us do. And anyone who's friendly and sweet like you is sure to be a friend!"
I touched my face. Don't you dare blush.
These dwarves were the sweetest things alive.
"...You're right...I am like Snow White.." I smiled. "...Well..I better go now, Ori. You go and get your sleep. I'll be back in awhile."
"..Yes, miss Sarah.."
I again turned and started off, but once again, he stopped me with his words.
"Miss Sarah.."
I paused and turned my head. "Yeah?"
He was quiet. I turned to investigate.
He at first was extremely shy and stayed in the same place, but then slowly started to approach me.
He was pulling something from his pocket.
"Here....." He handed me it quicker than I could register what it was.
I looked down to examine it, when my eyes got big fast.
Tauriel's elixir! I looked back at him. "WHERE-!!" "I was the one who found you and told the others...I didn't know you were good or evil..I found that laying beside you...so I took it...I'm so sorry, ma'am..please don't be angry."
I smiled, my eyes shutting in relief and I did a little laugh as I brought the elixir close to me.
"No...Ori...don't be sorry. You didn't--you DON'T know me. I would've done the same exact thing. I'm not mad. Not at all."
He smiled. "Good.."
I opened my eyes and looked down at it, my grin growing wider.
"Thank you....thank you, thank you..you're a life saver."
Without thinking, I lifted my head up, then swooped in and hugged him. Hugged his tiny self so tight.
I could tell he was shocked. But did I care about other people's boundaries? Pft.
He was silent, especially when I lifted my head up a little.
"Thank you." I sort've whispered to him. I sensed a smile.
I let go and stood back a little, continuing to beam at him.
He had the most adorable little grin that he was desperately trying to hide.
That little frog. ^_^
He nodded and began to back away. "It's my pleasure..miss Sarah."
"For the sake of humanity, child. Just call me Sarah."
He nodded once again. "Yes....Sarah."
With a little wave, he peaced of out there and left me in--- nooo, never mind, he was back.
"You know how I think the story ends?"
I looked.
He rubbed his fingers together, staring at the ground. "---I think Snow White defeats the Queen.....and takes back her kingdom! And she and the dwarves live in happiness together."
He shrugged. "...I hope the same for my company."
My smile faded a little. "That's a positive outlook.."
He made yet another shrug. "It's better to believe in a happy ending than to believe we all fall."
hm...true enough, I suppose. I was usually quite the optimist, so I proudly supported such a statement.
With that, wait-- "Good night, Sarah." A little bow, turn -- and he was really gone this time.
Not that I have anything against Ori, he's a sweetie and I greatly enjoy his company.
But I just needed a little time to FREAK OUT ON MY OWN CUZ I HAD THE ELIXIR AGAIN AND THE HEADACHES WOULD FINALLY CEASE, AHHHHHH!!!
ahem...sorry.
I held the elixir close to my chest, still not able to believe it was actually back with me.
I looked up, quietly thanking the man upstairs, then closed my eyes again and just stood there, hugging the bottle. For once, since being there..things were finally starting to look up for me.
And you have to understand, I wasn't thinking like myself.
