IN A FANTASTIC TURN OF EVENTS, MYSTERY BOY FINALLY HAS A NAME.
I was trying to play it cool, even though my body was tensing up with excitement.
"Gavin, huh? That's a nice name..it suits you...and wait, Takeo, isn't that.."
"It's Japanese, yeah. I'm half Japanese, actually."
GUYS, I MET AN ASIAN, HOLY COW, THEY'RE LIKE GOLD TO ME, I NEVER MEET ASIANS APART FROM SPENCER, DWJDWJDWJLJWJLWQD
I cleared my throat. "Fascinating. Pleased to meet you, Gavin. Demens' the name, Sarah Demens. And I am not half Japanese." He nodded, smiling reluctantly. I'm so awkward, it hurts my heart.
"Anyway, plenty of time to talk about that, dear boy." I pat his shoulder. "In the mean time, we've got things to take care of." "OKAY, but seriously!"
I swiveled my head to Dipper, who pointed almost accusingly at me.
"Who are you people?!"
His peculiar sister backed up her brother. "Yeah, like, you guys are super weird."
"Are we?" I shot back with a raised brow. "Or are YOU the weird ones?"
They glanced at eachother.
Gavin shook his head, "We're travelers, kids. Just travelers. We came here to save the town. And to investigate what some really bad people are upto.."
Hm..he was good with kids and handling things like that..I just tell it like it is.
I crossed my arms. "Which reminds me..you two and I got some talking to do when I get back. I wanna know how you managed to jump from Gravity Falls to Coolsville and why those monsters seemed so hellbent on killing you five..."
They looked intrigued. "Yeah, alright..it's a deal, weird lady."
I rose a brow. Weird lady....
"Deals usually mean both parties have something to negotiate with, but okay.."
My head turned to the others and I nodded, tapping my walkie talkie.
"I'mma keep in contact if something turns up. When everything's good with my trip to the hospital, we'll regroup at the T.A.R.D.I.S. and find a place to sleep for the night. Gotta be a hotel here or something..in fact, kids, that's my job for you. You ask the folks in there about where we could stay."
They nodded in compliance.
I gave Bane a stern look, handing him his own walkie talkie.
"Keep them safe, Bane. I mean it."
He took it and took a deep breath through his mask, his eyes full of emotion.
He said nothing, however, and simply took the twins by the hands and began his walk to the diner.
"Are you an assassin or something? Maybe a bouncer?" Mabel's voice trailed.
"Ooh, you got really huge muscles.."
"Mabel, please." Dipper moaned.
I chuckled as they got to the diner, the kids' voices becoming more and more distant.
I finally turned my gaze to the three crooks before me and I folded my arms, puckering my lips.
"As for you three...go on. Skedaddle. And don't bother trying to leave. I had a good talk with the T.A.R.D.I.S. and it won't let you abandon me no more. It likes me the best. So next time you leave..I'll be on that ship."
Joker grunted. "Great, there goes my weekend plans."
I rolled my eyes. "Just get! The lot o' ya!"
The three men dragged themselves off towards an alley, giving me and Gavin uneasy glances, clearly peeved off about the situation. I narrowed my own gaze at them until they vanished into the darkness, where my attention left the thought of the boys and to Gavin.
Okay, so look, I know it looks like Gavin is like, already my boyfriend or something. And I keep gushing about how awesome the guy is.
But I can assure you, it's not like that. I mean..I won't deny that I am attracted to him and I'm crushing just a little bit on him. But romance is the last thing on my mind rn.
I came for adventuring and adventuring alone. Besides...I have my reasons why I don't wanna boyfriend yet. Even if someone was interested in yours truly.
I got my own problems to deal with. So Mr. Takeo was to be nothing but strictly my friend.
Twas better that way.
Plus the fact I don't even know the guy from Adam.
Honestly though....there was definitely something about him that I felt a connection to.
Like he and I were meant to meet or something.
Something about him just made sense and I just..liked him. Genuinely. Honestly.
And amongst my ongoing feeling of being watched, he made me feel...safe. Secure.
Something that I haven't felt around anyone.
Anyhow, the two of us were at last alone, where could I actually get information out of him, considering it looked like he was actually gonna stick around for a change.
We walked alongside eachother down the path that the van drove towards. Me with my hands in my pockets and him with his hand positioned at his sword hilt. The air was awkward and uncomfortable and despite having a million questions, I had no idea what to say.

I could tell he was feeling it, too.
Speaking of the air, it was getting even colder and the fog seemed even denser.
That feeling of being watched also loomed upon my shoulders and I couldn't help but keep glancing side to side, front and back. Even up and down. Ya never know.
"So.." I decided to speak first. His eyes switched to me.
I pursed my lips, trying to find the next right thing to say.
"I feel like a cheeseburger."
...Exactly the right thing to say.
"Not like an actual cheeseburger, like I'm wearing bun and cheese, but I feel like eating a cheeseburger, ya feel me?"
Now I know why I'm still single.
He once again smiled the smile of a little boy and was utterly precious.
That was one thing about Gavin was that he had the seriousness and maturity of a grown man, the capable spirit of a warrior, but there was something about him through his kindness, innocence and facial expressions that reminded me of a child. And he was so happy? Despite all the madness going on. Gosh, I wish I could be like that. I may joke and sass a lot, but inside, I am 24/7 stress, anger and depression. If only I could be as giddy and carefree like the rest of the universe.
Total sarcasm on that bit, but oh well.
yeah, I know, shut up Demens.
Like I said, he was smiling and he chuckled, his eyes drifting off to the cloudy night sky, the moon poking out and shining brightly. "I could go for some spaghetti."
"Ooh and pizza!" "Mac n cheese." "Pasta!" "Cinnamon rolls."
"Tacos! And Pepsi!" "Garlic bread and chocolate milk." "Brownies and popcorn!"
"Icecream sundaes and freshly baked cookies."
"Goshdang it, boy, you've made me hungry."
My stomach was yelling at me as if on cue and I had no choice but to hush it.
"..I miss going and taking my dog for a walk..is that weird?"
"No..me, too." "And sleeping in and playing games and having movie marathons."
"Going to the theater." "YES. And eating breakfast, lunch and dinner."
"Binging shows on Netflix. Waking up to an alarm."
"Blogging and visiting the gamestore. And the bookstore."
"Hanging out with my bestfriend.."
His demeanor began to sag in sadness as his mind dwelled on this.
"..Family game night."
I smirked, but reluctantly looked to the ground.
"Yeah..I never had that..me and my parents kinda..did our own thing. We watched movies together, yeah, but then, we just, sorta stayed in our own corners."
He instinctively looked at me, with misplaced compassion and relatable sadness.
I looked back at him, trying to perk myself up before he could question me further on it.
"Zalright, no biggy, doesn't mattter now, does it?"
But he continued to stare at me, with that same sadness and concern.
And it made me uncomfortable. I couldn't look at him anymore. "What?"
"...Are you happy back home?"
I was silent..I didn't even bother shifting my gaze from the ground.
He didn't press. He just looked away and took a deep breath, obviously not wanting to upset me further, but was still worried, in a way.
"..It's amazing that even though we got our wish and escaped our ordinary lives, that we still come to miss the little things..all the little parts to our routine and the people we knew. The foods, the smells, the sights..even all the little inconveniences."
I slowly nodded in agreement.
We walked for a few moments without saying a word to eachother.
That's when he decided to jump in front of me and make me jolt.
He was now walking backwards without losing one ounce of speed.
"Why did you want to come?"
The question threw me off guard.
"Was it just to jump at the chance of gaining something more or..were there other reasons?"
My smile faded. He waited for my reply, with a hopeful expression.
Maybe this was indicating an open door for me to talk about things other than the adventure life..
like, how things were in my normal life. I dunno...
But I decided not to indulge. "I just..wanted to meet them."
"..And?"
How in the world could he tell there was more??????
"And........I never belonged there. Never. I've always been a freak on that planet and I've been so in love with all the wrong worlds. I think that's why I love aliens and monsters and characters and anything else strange so much. Because..I'm just like them. We're all trapped in situations and environments where we don't belong. And..I needed to get out or I was gonna suffocate."
I sighed deeply. He slowly nodded his head, understandably.
"..I get that..I'm sorry...."
I shrugged my shoulders, uneasily. "..And I felt...I dunno....I wouldn't say completely alone. I didn't have any friends there, other than my internet and long distance friends, including Emily and Hannah, my bestfriends...I saw my siblings on occasion...my dog....I have my par---my mom........."
My head fell. Even though I wasn't looking at him, he was staring at me.
And his head poked to my eyesight, with a reassuring smile. "You got me now."
I glanced at him. "...Will I?"
He chuckled. "Of course..we actually don't live that far away from eachother..."
How peculiar.
"I just feel like I'm made to look like a loser back home. I don't have a job, a license, never had a boyfriend or got any "real" friends. All I have is my dreams and the promise to myself that I'll be something more. And it seemed like for a long time, that day would never come..I just look..shameful."
"...Well don't think like that. And don't let people make you feel that way. Everyone is different and good things come to those who wait."
Good things come to those who wait....I guess, in a way..he was right.
I shrugged after a bit and my eyes lifted to him.
"..What about you? How were things before you got..here?"
It was his turn to look sad now.
"..Not too different from you..I felt a loneliness..sadness..despite having family and a sense of normalcy..the feeling of being different and feeling...out of place. I couldn't rid myself of it, no matter how hard you try. And you go through this battle..all these emotions, this struggle with feeling misplaced in the world, and no one understands it..I needed a purpose..I felt like I wasn't doing any good where I was..I needed to put my skills into something that would matter..that would actually help people. What good are fighting skills if you can't protect others with them?"
He shook his head. "...And then there was the belief..like you..that there are others out there. They were real. And I needed to find them. And I believed so hard in them.."
"And sometimes you feel like you're going crazy?"
He smiled at me. I smiled back and shrugged one shoulder.
"But ya love it?"
He nodded. "Yeah.....guess I wasn't alone in that."
It disgusted me how good he was.
So good that I wanted to smack him and incite rage within him so he'd stop being so pure for six seconds. It was impossible for a person to be this precious and yet here we were.
It also disgusted me how much we actually related to eachother.
It was appearing more that Mystery Boy--Gavin-- and myself were kindred spirits.
..I never really had one of those before.
"Well, that's nice."
Keep it together, Demens. Don't be pulled into the kindness train now.
You gots a reputation to uphold of being a terror.
"SO...how ARE you able to travel, anyway?"
"Hm?" He replied with a glance, now returning to my side.
"Well, I'm just saying. The boys and I have the T.A.R.D.I.S., surely you must have your own means and aren't just gallivanting from world to world on foot."
He smirked. "I do, actually..have a means, that is."
He then shuffled his fingers inside his pocket and at once pulled out a handful of marbles.
But not just any marbles...they were the exact same marbles that Cataclysm had possession of.
I gaped at this sight. "HEY!" We halted. "Where'd you get those?!?! HOW did you get those?!"
"The answer will surprise you..back in our world."
He and I stood close and examined the tiny objects, me gawking all the while.
"You're kidding.." My fingers gently touched them, them glowing various colors that radiated against my skin. "I found these in the lab, owned by a man I worked for..briefly."
"Man you worked for? Lab? Man, who the heck did you work for?!"
"A man called Corner Cornerstone."
I jolted. My whole body tensed up and my eyes slowly shifted to him.
"Corner Cornerstone?"
I stood up straight. "YOU worked for.....Corner Cornerstone?"
He nodded his head, slowly.
"...Yeah....he's an alien hunter...but you know that, don't you?"
I nodded back. "I met him..once. He was searching for the UFO the same night I was. And there was something about him..something that felt wrong."
"You're right. He is wrong. He's a dangerous and powerful man. Him and his lackey, Smit."
"How in the heck did they get ahold of those?!"
"I don't know. All I know is, they had a whole container full of these in that lab. And I don't think it was his men who made them."
My interest was beyond piqued. "I found some in Neverland and experimented with one. I threw it and a gaping hole appeared for a few seconds before closing and disappearing. It's like a..portal, isn't it?" He nodded. "Right. If you throw one with enough force, the marble itself transforms into a gateway to another world. It takes you to a random place at a random time in the universe. And it only stays open for a short time. Long enough for you to get through."
REALIZATION.
I gaped. "So THAT'S how they were doing it!!"
He gained a look of confusion. "Doing what?? Who??"
"The villains! Cataclysm! They've been using THESE! That's why they've been popping up in such random worlds! They're just using these to spread out and take down any world they come across! Which means that the head honcho had equipped them, their little agents of evil, with these and are having them disperse to cause as much chaos as possible--OH, what a brilliant plan!"
I was so full of knowledge that I forgot all about my problems and sadness and exploded into a pool of conspiracy. "But who could have made these and how long have they been crafting them--how long has this been going on, while I, stupid I, have been sitting at home, doing nothing to stop it! How much time have I wasted, how much time have I lost?! UGH, I'm so mad at myself! I'm losing my mind thinking of all this!"
Gavin lowered his head, smirking with his hands in his pockets, as he trailed behind me and listened to my rants in absolute silence. Until I suddenly spun around and pointed at him with an accusing finger. "AND YOU! The T.A.R.D.I.S....the T.A.R.D.I.S. has been following you..."
I approached him, slowly, narrowing my eyes as he widened his. I lowered my arm.
"We've been one step behind you all this time....but why..why has it been following YOU?"
"..Because I've been leaving you clues. "
I jerked my head back. "Huh?"
"Call it a trail of bread crumbs. That's why I've been going to so many worlds..I've been, well, informing everyone about your arrival. Giving them a headsup."
I slumped, completely baffled. "W---Why would you do that?"
He lowered his head, breaking eye contact. "Because..one look at you, back home..and I knew..I knew I could trust you.....And then when I found your blog, I knew what you would do-"
I suddenly and aggressively slapped my hand over his mouth, causing him to jump and widen his eyes at me, as I viciously shooshed him for several seconds.
When the air was silent and awkward enough to speak again, I looked him dead in the eye just to whisper harshly. "How in the heck do you know about my blog?!"
Upon realizing he couldn't answer through my gloved hand, I lowered it and swallowed, but still expected a good answer. He only observed me with confused innocence.
"Me and my friend found it. Together. We stumbled upon it, while looking for the T.A.R.D.I.S.."
"You found my blog while looking for the T.A.R.D.I.S.?! How does that even-"
"I know, there's a lot to be explained, and I promise you I will, but--"
He suddenly stopped, stepped forward, looking from side to side in a suspicious manner, which involuntarily caused me to do the same. Then our eyes met once more and me gosh, his eyes were like frigging galaxies, NO, STOP, STUPID, FOCUS.
"..Right now, it's too dangerous to talk about those things. About what we found out. We don't know if they might be listening." He nodded in code, which I only rose a brow to.
"Right.." I was trying so hard to be serious, for the sake of all that is good.
It was hard to maybe suspect him of being a spy. I didn't necessarily suspect him of anything other than being really ridiculously and unnecessarily good looking, that is. Bah!
Stupid black, eye-covering hair and bright expressive eyes and pale deathly skin and dark, mysterious but polite and gentlemanly persona, and the way he carried himself being so confident and kind and I hated him, I just freaking hated him, what a waste of time being attracted to him, and distracted and bewildered by his good looks, how dare he make single life even harder for me, and someone give me a knife, I need to stab him.
I swear I'm not trying to be a YA novel, I swear.
"I hate you." I spouted out with irritation, looking away in disgust.
All that aside, I needed to get my head back in the game. I brushed the matter away, and broke eye contact. His brows crinkled, "Sorry what?"
"Nothing, ignore me, anyway, we should cut the chit-chat and keep going."
My sight trailed off to the rest of the town.
"The others are probably already at the hospital. We should hurry."
He seemed understanding of this. "You're right...as much as I appreciate your undivided attention-"
Shut up, I will cut you.
"-We really should be regrouping with the others. Being split up like this..doesn't feel right."
"Oh?" Was trying not to look at him. Very hard. "Why's that?"
UNEXPECTEDLY, he took me by the chin with his index finger and thumb and slowly turned my face towards his. Then he leaned in and spoke in a soft voice, when it was already so calm and soothing. And I was about ready to karate chop him in the face, cause NOW was not the time!
"-Because the monsters we faced tonight won't be the last.."
Oh okay, monsters, continue forth.
"-There will be more and they're target us and pick us off faster while we're all alone."
His eyes cut to the distance, cautiously and darkly.
"..Just like him."
My head slightly moved and my eyes cut to the darkened, dimly lit town, street lights flickering from afar, and I at once was filled with a saddening level of adrenaline starting to flow through me at that very second. "You sense him, too, don't you?" He whispered, his other hand lowering to the hilt of his sword, while the one still held my chin. I swallowed hard. "Crap.......not him."

Master, Moriarty and Joker all rushed inside the T.A.R.D.I.S., each man breaking into separate parts of the room. The Joker threw off his coat and stormed towards the Master, who was at the controls. "Take us to space, I'm throwing that little punk's things out the door."
"Be quiet, I'm trying to focus."
The Master fiddled with the controls, typing in random keys on the pad.
"What are you upto, Saxon old boy?" Moriarty called from the fridge.
"There's something very wrong here...something..so wrong."
"Like what?" The Joker pressed. "Whatever it is, let's take off, ditch the kid already, leave this crap behind us!" "You know why we can't." The Timelord snapped, throwing him a dark glare.
The Joker rolled his eyes. "I'm sick of this..I'm sick of you not having the guts to leave her."
"And I'm sick of you always causing issues when we just start to gain her TRUST!"
The air fell silent.
Cold.
Tense.
That is when the Master saw it. And he froze where he stood.
His eyes enlarged and his mouth began to run open.
"..Oh no...no!"
Moriarty and Joker swiveled their heads at him, "What?!"
The Timelord abruptly flew past them, running full speed towards the door.
"We have to find Demens, NOW!"
"WHY, what's the point of her?!"
"THEY'RE AFTER HER!!"

Bane sat at the table, across from the Pines twins, who were both sharing a milkshake, courtesy of the diner's distraught waitress. The entirety of the window was shattered and the people inside the restaurant were too afraid to emerge from their hiding spots.
"So," Began the Pines boy, whose eyes lifted to the imposing brute before him.
"Are you like..that girl's bodyguard or something?? Because you look like a bodyguard."
"Yeah, TOTALLY bodyguard." Agreed the Pines girl.
She reached in and massaged the masked man's arm. "And such strong musclesss."
Bane's patience was tested.
"I really don't know what's going on." The Pines boy spoke.
"But I guess it's just another mystery we have to solve, Mabel! Things are getting weirder by the minute."
Bane laced his fingers together, leaning forward with his elbows propped atop the table.
"Where do you two come from? I believe Miss Demens mentioned you're not from here.."
"We're not.." The girl replied, slurping some of her shake. Her brother took over.
"We were in Gravity Falls, when this weird light appeared in the woods. We went to go check it out, when--we both blacked out and wound up waking up here. Those two FBI agents found us and took us along. They're not from around here, either. Neither is that girl."
Bane's eyes narrowed. "Fascinating...but why would they want..children? And two government agents...???"
His head turned to the window. "...Why lure them here?"
There was a sudden crackle that came from the walkie talkie, making the children jump.
Bane sat up straight, his eyes fixed on the device, and he took it, as the other two stared with enlarged eyes. "Speak."
"Bane! Where's Demens?!" "I haven't heard from her yet. She must still be going to the hospital with the boy." "Get her back NOW! They're after her! She's not safe!!"
Bane tensed, his eyes drifting to the twins. "Safe? What do you mean?"
"THEY'RE GOING TO KILL HER!"
His eyes widened.
"WHO?"
"THE VASHTA NERADA!"
Speaking of the air, it was getting even colder and the fog seemed even denser.
